Your digital business card

I'm not sure about most of you, but when i make a new contact and want them to stay connected through social media, i get lost in deciding which of my profiles could best be suited? Should i add him/her via Facebook (i know we ultimately end up using this one first) or twitter or LinkedIn or should i first invite him/her to go through my blogs and let them decide if i'm worth the bait?

To make things worse there are new ones that keep coming up and to stay in the league i'm forced to create my account there, fiddle around for a week or so until i've garnered the number of friends i'd in my mind, post updates and provide links to articles that challenge dominance of Facebook as under threat from this new kid on the block, set up my profile in its entirety and then switch back to Facebook to be socially active. It's always back to square one.

I always wondered if there was one site that provided a detailed account of our social wilderness and helped people to connect to us meaningfully. Come to think of it, i've recently started out with this blog where i want to share my thoughts and experience when it comes to customer service and gain insights from other people, i've a Picasa web album which i use to promote my paintings, i've a LinkedIn profile for my professional capacity, i've Flickr account to showcase my talent with so called mediocre camera's! and of-course Facebook, twitter, gplus, orkut, hi5 (the login info for which i've forgotten and never bothered to look back) to share my thoughts and watch videos and photos. Not all are required to be shared with everyone, however over a period of time we may end up doing this.

Therein lies the power of social media. We have specific tools (read as websites) for specific purpose and the best part is, they are all interconnected with links and widgets. Each tool offers some unique feature that makes us want to use it explicitly. Each tool provides us with a platform to showcase the best in us and get noticed. However it could have been even better if we had the power of a business card for our social presence; "Here gentlemen, please have this card. In here lies my profile that you can explore at leisure to know more about me".

About.me (an AOL service) does exactly this for us. I came across this amazing tool few days back that answered my question. This is my digital card that summarizes my social presence. With this tool, it makes having our own website almost unnecessary. I've my set of social media tools that i use to portray my work and passion, and with this account (about.me) i'm ubiquitous. They also have a tie-up with Klout services that can measure how effective you are in the social atmosphere. I'll leave the features and details on this website for your exploration. This website is a very fine example of effectively listening to what customers want.

A numbers game

If you search for the meaning for 'a numbers game' on google, this is what "The free dictionary by Farlex" (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/a+numbers+game) suggests,  "the use of numbers to represent facts in an argument, especially when it makes people believe things that are not true  It's just a numbers game and everyone does it. You manipulate the statistics till they suit your argument." " You manipulate the statistics till they suit your argument."  What argument am I referring to? The marketing argument. Manpuketing (manipulative marketing), to suit your pitch.  With a zillion plus products and services around us, it is a black hole for marketers to come out with innovative designs and slogans to attract customers to the product. Few genuinely dig deep into their hearts to understand the meaning behind what they are offering to a customer, while others scratch the surface for a innovative marketing pitch to meet a sales...

If you don’t get your bill, the treat is on us!

Meet Kushal , a perfectionist who loves his coffee and ace’s his job at every challenge thrown to him. A guy who likes to believe he is an expert trouble shooter with an eye latched to nit-picking loopholes so that he can exercise his frontal lobes for start-up ideas. Well, his friends think he should rather take it easy in a city like Bengaluru! On an early winter morning, Kushal decides to have a cuppa of coffee before strolling to his office. But the misty winds seduce him to ditch the ₹10/- waala coffee for a ₹150/- Cappuccin...

You don't go to mall only to shop in Bengaluru!

Yup. Where else in India can you go to a shopping mall to file a First Information Report (FIR) and get an FIR filed in 30 mins (including the case interview and filling up forms). To the delight of Bangaloreans , Bengaluru Police (we are yet to make a transition from being a  Bangalorean to Bengalurian ) recently opened India's first Remote FIR Center (RFC) at Mantri Shopping Mall, Malleswaram. Why am I excited about this? Well read on. Last week my friends bike was stolen and the first thing he did was to visit the police station to file a FIR to ensure that police is informed on any possibility of malicious use of his stolen bike. What happened in the police station is not something extraordinary, but a perfectly usual conversation and process. No FIR was filed and my friend was guided in a customer friendly manner to check in all the traffic police stations if his bike had been picked up, as a result of having left behind as a abandoned vehicle or (this is even...
